Recollections of the Nøttestad Anderson’s
Anders Evensen Nøttestad and Agnette
Before coming to America Anders Evensen and Agnette Engebretsd were married April 30, 1867 in Ottestad, Hedmark, Norway. The were known after coming to America as Anders and Agnette Nøttestad.
Ottestad is a parish, a sub-parish in Stange municipal. Nøttestad is a farm name. Anders Evensen was however, living on the farm Gulkundrud with his parents in census 1865. In his marriage record Ottestad church book 1862-1879 microfilm # N.H.11 page 122 # 4 it says that he was from Nøttestad or Allergodt. His wife was from Nordstadeie.
Then Name Nøttestad originates from a farm name in the Hedmark Fylke Norway. “Stad” means farm in Norwegian. Nøttestad is on the Tangen Map.
It is in the Hedmark Fylke-Stange. When Anders and Agnette Nøttestad came to Berlin, NH they ran a boarding house on Norway Street for the new Norwegian immigrants. Many of them were married from this boarding house. They later bought a beautiful home on the top of Eight Street. Still there today. Not sure which house on Norway Street was the boarding house. It probably is the one next to Nils Nilson (Albert's Brother). Amelia Nøttestad Anderson came to America at age 14 in 1887.
Agnette Nøttestad’s great grandson Birger Nøttestad put the flowers on her grave. Birger said he has been wanting to brush the letters on Albert's stone to make them more readable but hasn't got around to it. Birger Anderson legally change his name to Birger Nøttestad. He has visited with the family members in Quincy Mass and Michigan (He was in the service for many years) He remembers Arnold Nelson coming to Berlin for the funeral of Arthur Anderson (Birger’s father's brother) He even preached at the service. He knew Alf and his children. Also Avilda and her husband. Has lost contact at this point but Arthur's daughter Amelia's brother, Arthur Anderson's Daughter, Jean Hicks. who lives in Michigan. parish: Stange farm: Nøttestad Søndre main farmer: Christoffer Ols.
